A brand is much more than a logo or a tagline.  Having worked with numerous organizations, from municipal agencies, non-profits, corporations, small business enterprises and home-based businesses, what often happens is our brands get defined for us if we do not get around to defining it and leading the process.

There are loads of books out there, many of them excellent. The one I am really enjoying reading at the moment is Make a Name for Yourself by Robin Fisher Roffer.  In it, Roffer highlights 8 steps you need to create a personal brand strategy.

1.       Dig Deep to Unearth Who You Are

2.       Define your Dreams and Put them into Action

3.       Go after your Target Audience with a Vengeance

4.       Don't Crash and Burn – Figure Out what's Stopping You

5.       Recruit a Squad of Brand Cheerleaders

6.       Learn the Secrets to Packaging Your Brand

7.       Get Comfortable in your Own Skin

8.       Devise a Plan and Get On With It

Many of these are coaching strategies of self-discovery packaged into marketable tools for personal brands and brands for our businesses.  Branding does 2 things – it differentiates and drives choice.  Don't you want to lead that process and make a name for yourself the way you want to be seen and received rather than wait and have it defined for you?  Want to learn more about this?  Give us a call – 416 909 7251.

My best friends – Sandra, Renee and Carolyn – took me out to see the Vagina Monologues this weekend for my 40th birthday, which was held at Stage West in Mississauga, Ontario, in support of raising funds for V-Day (in honour of non-violence against women.)  If you have never seen this play, it is well worth seeing.  As funny as it was (and was intended to be so), the impact of the monologues have really hit home for me.  What strikes me is that our world squishes the very thought of pleasure, the very experience of passion and much of our humanity lives in this locked up world, where passion and a love for life gets put in a little box and locked away somewhere in hopes that the exciting but scary feeling it gives, will be forgotten and therefore not missed.  I am outrageously affected by this.  How can we suppress ourselves SO much?  Isn't life worth experiencing in its magnificence?  Furthermore, aren't we worth experiencing at our magnificence?  So what have I learned?  That I no longer accept a passionless life, for myself, for my friends, for my family or for my clients. I just won't have it anymore.
