I read a lot of coaching-type books and being a writer myself, I find that I get so much information in a pleasurable way through reading.  The book that has taken my interest right now is called Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and one particular quote that really resonated for me is this "The Bhagavad Gita – (an) ancient Indian Yogic text – says that it is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection."

How true that is.  Whose voice are you listening to when you clean every square inch of the kitchen floor because you have company coming over?  Who's talking when you HAVE to buy a present for teacher whom you don't particularly like?  Who says you must have dinner with that friend who you know will complain and blame all evening?  Who did you give the remote control of your life over to when you agreed to work on a project but feel the immense rush of dread as soon as you agreed?

Other people's voices can sound a lot like our own.  Often times, we don't even know the difference between what we think and what we think we should think!  Getting clear on this is so  important on order to honour who you are and what you want.  Having trouble deciphering the difference? Check out whether you put the words "must, have to, should" in your thinking.  If you do, it's probably somebody else's voice in your head!!

As I have mentioned before in my newsletters, it is always good to try something new.  It's the best way to expand yourself and I take great pride in embracing new opportunities and perspectives as well as projects, sometimes just for the purpose of self-discovery and growth.  As you know, I am co-writing a book with my friend and fellow coach Patrick and it has been a very interesting experience learning about myself and how I work in a collaborative project such as creating our book Be Different Be You.  (www.bedifferentbeyou.com)  I realize that I am a bit of a loner when it comes to work.  I like to think about my contribution before talking about it, mull over the ideas before sharing them so to be as time-efficient as possible whereas Patrick prefers to brainstorm and share all options in a co-active environment.  What have I learned?  That being in unchartered territory (team vs. individual) always brings insight and my learning is that two creative minds working together can often seem like time wasted but almost always, yields far greater results.  I hope you think so too when you read the book.  In the meantime, as we are finishing our final edits, I am pushing myself to think in a non-solo space; not easy for me, but I will do my best.
